VOCAL’s Flight of Angels
VOCAL’s Flight of Angels is a fun annual community event for all the children in ‘Our Town’ whose lives have been affected by crime, separation and tragedy.
The event is held during December in Foreshore Park, Newcastle near the tram sheds.
VOCAL already holds a beautiful, annual event ‘The VOCAL Christmas Tree of Angels’ where people who have lost a loved one or suffered through crime and other tragedy come together to honour and remember their angels at Christmas.Because that night is really more suitable for adults, we have begun a new tradition and focus on the kids.
So many children are suffering and Christmas will be tough – perhaps because they’ve lost loved ones – some to ‘too-soon’ death, some to divorce and for many other reasons have lost cherished people from their lives. On this day, they’ll have fun, play old-fashioned games like ‘egg’n spoon and sack races and they’ll be making a Hands of Peace banner etc.
They’ll be invited to take part in ‘The Flight of the Angels’ by releasing helium balloons, to honour and send love to their angels and others. They’ll be with other kids who are ‘just like them’.
We have a Santa who would like some help to collect suitable gifts, prizes, sweets, drinks etc. and would really appreciate the support of our community in whatever way you and they can see fit. Goods, donations or even people power on the day would be wonderful. That’s what these children need to see – their community working together for the kids!
Raising funds and awareness is very challenging these days, especially for smaller charities like ours.
