Victims Services is part of the NSW Attorney General’s Department and consists of: Victims Compensation Tribunal, Victims of Crime Bureau, and the Families and Friends of Missing Persons Unit.  The services provided by Victims Services include:  compensation, counselling, referral to other agencies, assistance with Victim Impact Statements, ensuring agencies comply with the Charter of Victims Rights, and providing a 24 hour victim support line.

Lawlink NSW is hosted by the Attorney General’s Department of NSW. Contains information about the law, victims of crime, domestic violence, NSW courts and tribunals, etc.  It is a government portal website to law and justice agencies in New South Wales.  Lawlink NSW is the umbrella site to more than 40 law and justice agencies.

LawAccess NSW provides free access to information about the law, legal services and assistance.  This site contains legal fact sheets and guides in different community languages.

The legal information access centre is a state-wide service providing free access to information about the law in NSW.

Australian Law
The National Library of Australia is the country’s largest reference library. Their role is to ensure that documentary resources of national significance relating to Australia and the Australian people, as well as significant non-Australian library materials, are collected, preserved and made accessible either through the Library itself or through collaborative arrangements with other libraries and information providers.

The Legal Aid site provides access to information about their range of services including who qualifies and how to apply for legal aid, specialist services and information sheets.

Law Society of NSW
The Law Society of NSW is the professional association for solicitors, representing more than 17,000 layers in NSW.  They have a solicitor Referral Service to assist with finding a private solicitor.

NSW Bar Association
The NSW Bar Association is a voluntary association of barristers in NSW.  The site has links to search for a barrister and various pro bono and legal assistance schemes.

Law and Justice Foundation
The Foundation is an independent statutory body working to improve access to justice in NSW, particularly for socially and economically disadvantaged people.  They support the production and distribution of plain language legal materials and education to the community through research into user needs and pathways; the provision of grants; and the distribution of information and by supporting networks.

Australian Legal Information Institute
The Australian Legal Information Institute provides free internet access to Australian legal materials.   They are one of the largest sources of legal materials on the net, with over 4 million searchable documents, including primary legal materials (legislation, treaties and decisions of courts and tribunals); and secondary legal materials created by public bodies for purposes of public access (law reform and royal commission reports for example) and a growing collection of law journals.

Australian Law Reform Commission
Established in 1975, the Australian Law Reform Commission is a permanent, independent federal statutory corporation that focuses on federal laws and legal processes.  The ALRC conducts enquiries into areas of law reform at the request of the Attorney-General of Australia.

World Legal Information Institute
The World Legal Information Institute provides free, independent and non-profit access to worldwide law.

NSW Caselaw
NSW CaseLaw is an online service providing published judgements and decisions of the New South Wales Courts and Tribunals.

NSW Legislation
The NSW Parliamentary Counsel’s office drafts and publishes most of the acts, regulations and bills in NSW.

Intellectual Disability Rights Service (IDRS)
Legal help is available to anyone in NSW with an intellectual disability or for others on their behalf.  The Criminal Justice Support Network is a service of the IDRS that provides support for those in contact with the criminal justice system.

Women’s Legal Resource Centre NSW

Women’s Legal Services (WLS) NSW is a free community legal centre providing women with a range of free community legal services, including legal advice and information, education, training and resources across metropolitan and regional areas of NSW.

National Council for Single Mothers and Their Children
This site aims to promote the understanding and acceptance of single mothers and their children so they will be free from economic, social and legal discrimination and prejudice. Information includes:  women’s safety after separation, child support information, abuse free contact campaign, submissions, etc.

National Women’s Justice Coalition (NWJC)

The NWJC is a coalition of organisations and individuals which aims to promote women’s equality before the law in Australia.  The NWJC aims to promote women’s equality before the law by working at a national level and focusing on:  raising awareness of issues relating to women’s legal equality; coordinating and lobbying on women’s justice issues, and building networks and facilitating the work of individuals and groups.

Children’s Legal Services

Children’s Legal Service provides legal advice to children and young people under the age of 18 who have committed or who are suspected of committing a criminal offence.

NSW Department of Education and Training
The NSW Department of Education and Training coordinates all public education and training services in NSW from early childhood through to post-compulsory education and training.  The site contains information about the Department’s policies including child protection, bullying and suspension and expulsion.

National Children’s and Youth Law Centre
The National Children’s and Youth Law Centre is an independent, non-profit organisation working for all Australians under the age of 25.  It provides advice and information to children and young people, their parents and advocates and the wider community about young people’s rights and responsibilities.

Aboriginal Justice Advisory Council
The Aboriginal Justice Advisory Council provides advice to the NSW Government on law and justice issues affecting Aboriginal people.
