Robyn Cotterell-Jones awarded Order of Australia Medal
VOCAL Inc CEO Robyn Cotterell-Jones has been honoured for service to the community through helping victims of crime find hope and courage – she has been awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM).
The Order of Australia is an order of chivalry to recognise Australian citizens and other persons for achievements or meritorious service.
Ms. Cotterell-Jones became a victim of domestic violence which had serious life-changing effects. It was these experiences that led her to become involved in supporting victims of crime. She founded the Victims of Crime Assistance League in 1998, after being involved for several years with a homicide victims support group.
Ms. Cotterell-Jones is particularly proud of an annual event she started in 2004 called the Christmas Tree of Angels, which provided solace to people whose lives had been changed forever by crime and tragedy. The ceremony helps survivors, family and friends to honour their journeys and memories among others who understand suffering.
